It would be nice to have a preview and overall better experience for attachments on a ticket. I don't want the item to open a new tab in my browser every time I click on an attachment in a ticket.

Currently, if the attachment is an image file (png, jpeg, etc), we will open it in our preview component. If you can give the format of your files, we will check if the same preview can be enabled.
